Spuds for Buddies Project

Provision of a new greenhouse and project activities based at the Healthy Heart Garden

This funding is for gardening project activities based at the Healthy Heart Garden, the Disability Resource Centre, Love Street, Paisley. This is undertaken as a partnership between Renfrewshire Environmental Trust, Healthy Heart Garden Disability Resource Centre and local schools.

The beneficiaries are adults with learning disabilities/physical disabilities and living in Renfrewshire who volunteer at the Healthy Heart Garden. There are five regular volunteers who will lead the project with a sessional project worker. The gardening project aims to promote food growing and healthy eating activities, working with two local school pupil groups, and two community groups interested in gardening in the Paisley North area.

Practical workshops will take place with talks and tasks in gardening using potatoes in schools/community venues, and at a greenhouse and raised beds at the Healthy Heart Garden. A booklet with 12 recipes for using potatoes and other vegetables will be produced and distributed to pupils and local groups.

Thanks to funding from the People's Postcode Lottery.
